 Akron Jo’s Café Akron, Iowa Jose Arreola spends most of his days in the kitchen, working under a sign that reads “Harassing the cook will definitely result in smaller portions.” Before opening Akron Jo’s Café in Akron, Iowa in 1999, Jose spent 24 years working in the restaurant business, including being Chef and Manager over 53 employees at a restaurant in Beverly Hills, California. The original Akron Jo’s building had a seating capacity of 46. After three years of operation, Jose knew the building was no longer adequate. Utilizing both SEDC’s RLF and SBA’s 504 loan programs, Akron Jo’s Café purchased and remodeled a new building with seating capacity of 165, adding a full-service bar and extending the hours of operation. |

Houska Dental Clinic Vermillion, SD  Dr. Randy Houska and his wife Mary both work full-time in their general practice dental clinic in Vermillion, SD. After many years of leasing space, they decided it was time to expand and build their own building. The Houskas completed their building in 2002 with the assistance of the SBA 504 loan program. With efficiencies gained in five patient rooms and with new equipment, patient and production growth increased to higher levels than ever before. |

MultiCare Physicians Group Sioux City, Iowa Dr. Scott Sneller, D.C., a Sioux City native and 1996 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, opened his own chiropractic practice in 1997. Recognizing the limitations and benefits of traditional medical and chiropractic care, he pursued a multi-disciplinary approach to injury and pain treatment, and was able to reach his goal in 2001. Dr.  Sneller and Dr. Garry Clark, D.O., joined together in spearheading Multicare Physicians Group, P.C., the first Iowa facility offering traditional osteopathy care, chiropractic care, physical therapy, and massage therapy under one roof for treatment of pain and injuries. All treatment programs are carried out in-house. Patients are educated on how to care for themselves going forward to prevent similar injuries and/or minimize pain. Long-drawn-out treatment plans are discouraged, but patients may opt for "well health visits" to verify they are on the right health path and no new problems have cropped up, much like regular visits to the dentist. In addition to pain management and injury care, Multicare Physicians Group provides sports physicals, strengthening and conditioning training for local high school and college athletes, and functional capacity examinations for attorneys using AMA approved software. Utilizing the SBA 504 program through SEDC, this unique business was able to build a new facility off of Singing Hills Blvd. in Sioux City. |

 Pediatric DentistrySioux City, Iowa After attending dental school and completing his residency at the University of Iowa, Dr. Jeff Hemmingsen selected Sioux City in which to open his pediatric dental practice. Dr. Hemmingsen had made a commitment to the University to stay in Iowa, and chose Sioux City because of the good population base and lack of other dentists specializing in pediatric care. Utilizing the SBA 504 loan program and SEDC's RLF program to purchase the clinic equipment, Dr. Hemmingsen moved into leased space and opened his office in 2002. |
Pacific City Graphics  South Sioux City, NebraskaPacific City Graphics was established in 1985 as a traditional commercial flat sheet printer. 1998 marked a significant expansion of the company with the addition of commercial envelope printing. This company quickly established a niche in the region’s envelope printing market and continued to add presses to accommodate their customers’ needs, running out of space by the end of 1999. Utilizing the SBA 504 loan program, Pacific City Graphics built a new facility to house not only the print shop and offices, but warehouse space so customers could order print jobs in bulk and have the product stored until needed.
